The origins of the Vienna Zoo (Tiergarten Schönbrunn) can be traced back to the menagerie of emperor Francis I, founded in 1752 and the oldest Zoo in the world. With many of its original Baroque buildings still intact, it is one of the most enjoyable zoos in Europe to visit, especially if you spend some time looking for refreshments in the Pavilion of the Imperial breakfast of the eighteenth century which now houses a great coffee. A highlight of the Zoo of over 750 species are its giant pandas, including Cubs, as well as the many fascinating creatures housed in the interactive rainforest house and Aquarium.
